Depression is more than just feeling sad. it is a condition that affects mood, body and thoughts. it can last weeks, months or even years. there are different types and each shows up in different ways.

Types of depression:
Major depression: deep sadness, no interest in daily life, lasts for long period
Persistent depressive disorder: low mood that goes on for 2 years or more
Bipolar disorder: mood swings between depression and high energy (mania)
Seasonal affective disorder: depression linked with certain seasons, often winter
Postpartum depression: happens after childbirth, mother feels sadness, emptiness, or unable to connect

Common symptoms:
Feeling sad, empty or hopeless most of the day
Losing interest in hobbies, work or people
Sleeping too much or too little
Eating more or less than usual
Feeling tired all the time, no energy
Trouble focusing, memory problems
Feeling worthless or guilty
Thoughts of death or suicide

Depression is serious but it can be managed with treatment, lifestyle changes, and support.

Yeah true it’s not just sadness it really takes over life. some people don’t even realize how heavy it feels until it hits. the types you listed are real and show up so different in each person. symptoms too, they drain energy and make even small things hard. Treatment can help but finding what works is tough. do you think therapy works better than meds or do people need both?

Depression hits in different forms not just one picture. Some get stuck in heavy sadness where nothing matters anymore, others drag years with low mood that never lifts. few swing between deep lows and sudden highs, and some only feel it when seasons shift. Mothers after birth can face it too with emptiness and no bond. Signs show as lost interest, broken sleep, no energy, eating changes, foggy mind, guilt, or even dark thoughts. it’s not just mood, it’s whole life shaken.
